15 Minutes of Infamy

15 Minutes of Infamy provides a venue for seasoned writer/performers of spoken word and song to present their work before a live audience. This event is not a typical open-mic production as performance sets can last up to 15 minutes. All of our events are, therefore, curated to ensure that the entertainment value is maximized.

Interested performers of original word craft should submit an expression of interest, which includes a brief bio and a sample of their work (pdf file for poetry or prose; sound file or link for music) to cyberian@telus.net. Please refer to our Guidelines for Performers on Facebook for further details, or contact us directly with any questions.

Guidelines for Performers

1. Each performer is asked to submit a brief profile and a description of the type of material s/he will be presenting 1 week prior to the event so that the MCs may craft some of this information into an introduction of his/her set. This information will also be used to establish the lineup and order of presentation.

2. Performers should gather at least 30 minutes before ‘show time’ at the site to meet the organizers and the other performers, to establish a sense of community for this event, and to make any last-minute adjustments in the lineup.

3. Participants should communicate any technological requests or personal accommodation requirements well in advance of the event.

4. Each presenter will have a maximum of 15 minutes on stage. This will include preamble, audience response, banter etc. At the 15-minute mark, s/he will be warned that her “fame is up” and will have one additional minute to wrap things up. 10 minutes of selected material should probably bring each performer nicely under the wire.

5. Performance pieces and set pieces should be practiced/rehearsed beforehand and then performed for maximum impact. This advice may not apply to the same extent to seasoned storytellers, who may wish to rely on impromptu elements to enhance the immediacy of their material.

6. Thematic set pieces might be advisable in some cases, especially for those who intend to become ‘repeat offenders’ at future events. An overview of one’s work, styles/formats, or subject matter could also make for an interesting set piece.

7. 15 Minutes of Infamy is not a forum for:

 hate-themed content, language, or rhetoric, political manifestos, conspiracy-theory rants, or profanity for profanity’s sake
